The first sarcasm detected is in the manner that Louise reacts to the intelligence of the decease of her hubby, Brently Mallard. Before Louise # 8217 ; s reaction is revealed, Chopin alludes to how the widow feels by depicting the universe harmonizing to her perceptual experience of it after the # 8220 ; atrocious # 8221 ; intelligence. Louise is said to # 8220 ; non hear the narrative as many adult females have heard the same. # 8221 ; Rather, she accepts it and goes to her room to be entirely. Now the reader starts to see the universe through Louise # 8217 ; s eyes, a universe full of new and pure life. In her room, Louise sinks into a comfy chair and looks out her window. Immediately the image of comfort seems to strike a uneven note. Following, the freshly widowed adult females is looking out of the window and sees spring and all the new life it brings. The descriptions used now are as far off from decease as possible. # 8220 ; The delicios breath of rain # 8230 ; the notes of a distant vocal # 8230 ; infinite sparrows were chittering # 8230 ; spots of bluish sky # 8230 ; . # 8221 ; All these are beautiful images of life, the reader is rather confused by this most unusual prefiguration until Louise # 8217 ; s reaction is explained. The widow susurrations â€Å"Free, free, free! † Louise realizes that her hubby had loved her, but she goes on to explicate that as work forces and adult females frequently inhibit eachother, even if it is done with the best of purposes, they exert their ain volitions upon eachother. She realized that although at times she had loved him, she has regained her freedom, a province of beeing that all of G-d # 8217 ; s animals strive for. Although this reaction is wholly unexpected, the reader rapidly accepts it because of Louise # 8217 ; s equal account. She grows excited and Begins to fantasy about life her life for herself. With this realisation, she wishes that # 8220 ; life might be long, # 8221 ; and she feels like a # 8220 ; goddess of Victory # 8221 ; as she walks down the steps. This is an eerie forshadowing for an even more unexpected stoping. The reader has merely accepted Louise # 8217 ; s reaction to her hubby # 8217 ; s decease, when the most unexpected happens ; her hubby is really alive and he enters the room flooring everyone, and Louise particularly, as she is shocked to decease. The sarcasm continues, though, because the physicians say she died of joy, when the reader knows that she really died because she had a glimps of freedom and could non travel back to populating under her hubby # 8217 ; s will once more. In the rubric, the # 8220 ; narrative # 8221 ; refers to that of Louise # 8217 ; s life. She lived in the true sense of the word, with the will and freedom to populate for merely one hr.

Discuss the respective contributions of the scientific management Essay

Discuss the respective contributions of the scientific management approach and the human relations approach to managing people i - Essay Example However, human relations approach to managing people has not been able to totally replace the scientific management approach in all industries. In fact Richardson (1996) considers modern strategic management as the major problem causer in modern society rather than problem-solver. Richardson finds that scientific management is alive and used for strategic development in the highly competitive and productivity-conscious, organized world. Through time and motion studies it is possible to break down the work into simple tasks which could then enable the management to find the one best way to handle the task. Through this method it is possible to break down every step to the extent that it is possible to determine the amount of time that the worker could be allowed a break for drinking water. The workers then have to work like automated machines. Thus, to make the most effective use of human resources people have to be managed in this way. This principle of scientific management can ampl y be found in the way the fast food industry manages mass production based on the management principles of efficiency, calculability, predictability and control (Allan, Bamber, Timo, 2006). This sector is based on the classic Taylorist principles. Jobs are simplified, routinised and there is clear division of labor. ... There is practically no human relations approach in this sector even though they have developed the production system based on Taylorist principles. Taylor maintained that workers often performed tasks that were unnecessarily wasteful, hazardous and exhausting (Peck & Casey, 2004). Hence the work should be broken up into small parts and each step should be optimized. Taylor also suggested that the breaking up of the tasks should be done by talking with the workers of the ‘one best way’ (Peck & Casey, 2004) but in the fast food industry employee decision making and discretion have been totally eliminated; workers’ interactions are controlled by employers (Allan, Bamber, Timo, 2006). The fast food sector is thriving globally despite only partially adopting scientific management and not having human relations approach to managing people. A good team needs and informed, intelligent leader, according to Taylor (Darmody, 2007). Managers have the responsibility of motiva ting their employees and instructing them of the best way of performing the task. The aim is to attain efficiency and maximize productivity. Taylorism or the scientific management separates the labor process from the skills of workers. The jobs are simplified and routinised so that less skilled workers would be able to comfortably work on it and the management would be less dependent on skilled workforce. It also states that the conception and planning should be in the hands of the management while the shop floor is concerned only with the execution of predetermined plans. Decision making is centralized and every step of the labor process is controlled through formal rules and procedures. This is precisely what is happening even today not only in the fast food industry but even at the

Research Progress Report Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Research Progress Report - Assignment Example There are several vehicles that authorities can employ to realize the genuine, effective participation of citizens in the governance process. One such vehicle is community councils. Following the amalgamation of Toronto in 1998, six community councils were established. The community councils were meant to serve as the platform for â€Å"participating† the residents of Metropolitan Toronto, the new amalgamated city. The notion of "amalgamation" entails merging smaller local authorities with one larger municipality to form one large metropolitan area. Promoters of city amalgamations argue that it is more cost-effective to provide services and goods to one larger municipality than in several small local government areas(Schwartz, 2010). However, many scholars are of the view that amalgamation has not worked for Toronto and that the community councils are weak. This paper compares the Toronto model with two others: New York and Montreal. Scholars consider New York a success and Montreal, like Toronto, a failure. Based on the findings of the case studies, the author recommends two reform options for Toronto. Until 1997, Toronto had a two-tier regional government. The Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto comprised the upper tier while the lower tier comprised the municipalities of North York, East York, Scarborough and Toronto and the borough of York. In late 1996, the premier of Ontario proposed the amalgamation of Metropolitan Toronto. They argued that the move could save $645 million during the transition and $300 million a year afterthat (Schwartz, 2010). However, a report by KPMG revealed that the transition cost the government of Ontario $275 million while they managed to save only $135 million a year. As of 2008, the city’s budget stood at $8.1 billion, up from $5 billion in 1997. Only the number of politicians fell, but increases in the councilors staff and office budgets have canceled any cost

Industry Environment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Industry Environment - Essay Example It has also put down strategies that would ensure that it maintains its state over a long and short term. The nature of competition exhibited in the industry is a monopolistic competition. There are various competitors produce similar products but of a slightly different structural composition. The retailers exhibit the highest level of competition, which is typically fragmented. Competition on the football footwear records the highest rate followed by the athletes among the products of the company. This is more evident in the sectors dealing in customer service provision, brand name merchandise collection, pricing and friendly shopping procedures. The sporting products industry experiences changes in diverse dimensions including prospects on new products. New products cost relatively higher than those already in the market. On the other hand, the products have higher demand compared to those already in the market. The suppliers have control over their brands; they must market their products so as to create demand for them. This goes along with rivalries among the vendors dealing in different brands, which, is forwarded to the retailers. The changes in the macro environment have led to both negative and positive results in the operation of the business. To begin, prospects in new products have led to fair pricing as the products exhibit higher stock flow as compared to the initial conditions. According to Borowski (2011), competition from other brands and higher rate of introduction of new sporting products in the market has led to the production of more superior quality stock by the companies. The level of advertisement has also increased so as to maintain the levels of competence. This brings about more expenses as compared to the initial time before such changes were introduced. Haig (2011) found the following: The Company is planning on specializing in quality brand production so as to win the customers loyalty and outshine their

The limitations of the study will be highlighted and references for further reading will also be listed at the end of this research. CHAPTER 2 LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 THE IMPACT OF FINANCIAL DERIVATIVE The financial derivatives have a direct influence on the organization. A financial derivative is a good policy of risk management. Froot et al (1993) observed that the peak level of investment and capital spending are selected at the same time. They recommend that financial cost risk management should have a particular dominant goal, this enable the company to have access to cash to make a price improving investments. The risk management model rely on the fundamental premises that the essentials of establishing corporate value is creating good investment and the essentials to creating good investment is generating adequate cash within, in order to use it to find those investments. Nance et al (1993) and Mian (1994) discover a statistically important clear relationship between the tax credits and the practise of risk management instruments. Dolde (1995) reported a clear and an important relation between tax loss carry forwards and the practise of risk management instrument which include hedging. Dixon Bhandari (1997) found that calls for supervision through a rise in legislation are not generally accepted. Although the supervisory body main focus is that the stability of inter market could be strictly undermined without greater supervision. Guay (1999) studies financial derivative responsibilities in organizations by initiating derivatives practises. The outcomes were consistent with organization practising derivatives to hedge and not to expand, entity risk. Organization risk is measured in different ways which reduces following the use of derivatives. The study observes a decrease in risks and decisions to introduce derivatives programs vary from hedging. The outcome highlights the significance of hedge accounting laws that incorporate the influence of derivatives and hedged items at the same time. Fender (2000) discovers some basics of corporate finance of monetary economics examine the influence of corporate risk management policies on the monetary transmission system. They employed an easy model of a financial speed up to sort the information asymmetries, they are the core of the entire models of the transmission system, it establish motivation for corporate hedging activities, that is cash flow administration, they realise that these principles, in turn, reduce the influence of monetary policy degree which is lower to the clear cost of capital effect. Billing (2002), describe the reasons behind the protection and enlightened on how auditors should review the different problems raised from the utilisation of financial instrument. Heilliar et al (2004), access the influence of financial reporting standard 13: Derivatives and different financial instruments, implementations and disclosures which focus is on the treasury department responsibilities. The researchers deliberately conduct interviews with the workers of the UK treasury department in order to review their behaviours towards and observed the impact of FRS 13. At large, the treasurer reply at an advantage to the standard and carefully reviewed the narrative disclosure to be specifically useful. The numerical disclosures were comprehensive and focused. The rapid growth in the financial derivatives also has an influence on Chinas financial market. Ba Shusong (2004) believes that financial derivatives have played a vital role in the growth of Chinas market. Subsequently, El-Masry (2006) stated that big firms often used derivatives than average or smaller firms, public companies often use derivatives than the private companies. The use of derivatives is ultimate in the midst of international firms. The findings reveals that most firms that do not use derivative instrument is attributed to the fact their experiences are not important and the major reasons they avoid derivatives are, they focus on the experiences requires by FASB rules under derivatives activity, fees of creating and sustaining derivatives activities go beyond the expected profit, foreign exchange risk is often managed with derivatives and interest rate risk is often managed with derivatives and interest rate risk is risk that is subsequently managed risk and the study reveals that the main reason for the use of hedging with derivatives is supervising the volatili ty in liquidity. Bartram (2006) explores the incentive and use of non financial firms with respect to using options in managing risk activities. The study realize that an important number of 15 – 55% of the companies not within the financial sector practise the options which shows the fact that options are very flexible risk management instrument which can be useful to hedge different types of exposures both linear and non-linear, it also discover that it rely on the correlation between price and quantity risk, the optimal hedge portfolio involve different combination of both linear and non linear risk management instruments. The accounting ways and the effects of liquidity can influence the selection of derivatives. Eckstein et al (2008) study the impact of organization using derivatives which applies Statement of Financial Account Standards (SFAS) no 133; it shows the degree of cumulative effects of differences in accounting formulas from the annual income statement adopted, market response to earnings pronounced and the major effect of financial ratio. The outcome reveals that the important negative unpredicted returns were noticed around earnings pronouncement dates. Abnormal earnings correlate with the cumulative effect instead of the differences in earnings per share from operations which reveals that surprises connected to changes in accounting, it is also established that companies with resources unrealized profit and losses are connected to hedging with derivative instrument. 2.2 THE MERITS OF FINANCIAL DERIVATIVES There are several advantages of financial derivatives from 1990s McAllister and Mansfield (1998) studies the responsibilities and ability of financial derivatives investment property portfolio management and also focus on the difficulties of direct investment in commercial property. They also analyse and the major principles and all different types of derivatives, they rounded it up that the possibilities of financial derivatives to mitigate most of this difficulties which is connected with direct property investment that is studied. They also decided on Property Index Certificates (PIC) has been narrow down with shareholders and ought to produce rise in interest rate and the use of derivatives product within the assets both in the UK and global institutional shareholders. Tyler and Stanley (2002), Counter Sheedys call for further readings through the practical examination of the equity derivatives market in US and UK, quarrelling that while link in this market do, to a certain degree, showing features a typical of broader and indeed inherent, to over-the-counter derivative exchange. After that, Zivney et al (2006) discovers the possibilities of using dividend plans by individual shareholders. This plan was raised from the 2003 tax law changes which reduce tax rates on dividends received while abandoning the short term tax rate on capital losses unaffected. Freeman et al 2006, realize that the credit derivatives market is control by big banks and insurance firms who does business within themselves. The growth of credit derivatives market develops into more liquid and transparent. Freeman emphasize that thee a various easy and practical ways in which organisation can use credit derivatives to manage risk to show the empirical strengths and weakness of a particular approach. Klimczak (2008) produce a detailed assessment of the main contemporary firms hedging theories. The study focus on a sample of 150 companies listed on the Warsaw stock exchange which shows features shared by companies using hedge. 2.3 RISKS ATTACHED TO FINANCIAL DERIVATIVES From the above, the literature review shows various advantages of financial derivatives on the risk management of finance. However, some risk occurs in the operation of financial derivatives. Financial derivatives have been faced with so many criticisms this mostly is due to large loose because of leverage and borrowing. Laker (2008) examines that as the derivatives permit shareholders to earn huge returns from small movement in the basic assets price. Though shareholder might lose more money if the basic asset price moves against them drastically and the financial derivatives might expose shareholders to counter party risk and all types of financial derivatives have different risks at different level to this effect. Also financial derivatives will stand as an unsuitable large amount of risk for little and mostly for shareholders who lack experience as financial derivatives offers chances of huge rewards and so many attractions even to individual shareholders. However, speculation under derivatives most presumes a great deal of risk consisting commensurate experience and good market idea which favours a small shareholders, this is the purpose why some financial advisers are opposing the use of these instruments. Derivatives are complicated instrument as forms of insurance in transferring risk among a ll parties involve which presume an additional risk. Laker further identified that financial derivatives often have a huge estimated value, as a result of that there is a high level of risk and shareholders might lose much without been compensated. As stated by Berhire Hathaway inc. (2002) on the annual report, that there is a possibility that this could result in a chain reaction and subsequently in an economic crisis. Also Rawles (2006), financial derivatives enormously leverage within the economy, which makes it more complex for the basic real economy to facilitate its debt requirement and restricting the real economic functions which often lead to economic recession. 2.4 THE SUPERVISION OF FINANCIAL DERIVATIVES ANALYSIS The supervision of the financial derivatives should be acknowledged as both the advantage and risk are present in financial derivatives. Though, there few journals which analyse the supervision of financial derivatives, in the late 1990s, Shah (1996), identified that in the rise of huge losses from derivatives dealers and end users in modern years, many issues are being highlighted as regards the regulatory structure that is necessary to supervise and control the use of derivatives, it disagree that the principle in which the issue can be resolved by strict internal policies whereas regulators assume it is necessary for more precise oversight is misplaced though it still can be use for hedging, Derivatives involves high risk technology which often pose problems for regulations and its functions. Recently, Kern (2001), identified that the global regulation of financial markets became obvious in the 1970s with regards to post Bretton Woods liberalisation of financial markets. The removal of the fixed exchange rate equal the outcome of gold in the privatisation of finance risk, which established tension to eliminate the functions of cross border capital movements and more deregulation of the financial market. However, there is need for general regulatory body to build safe and reliable financial institutions such as bank through an efficient management as systemic risk in general market. Also it is necessary for international standards of supervision to also be acknowledged to avoid solvent in the financial institutions in one jurisdiction from the business to collapse to a less reputable institutions functioning in other jurisdictions whose rules only allowed cut rate financial services and more risky financial functions. The privatization of financial risk leads to establishm ent of financial institutions to blow out their risks over to many resources and functions which lead to an important rise in short term cross border portfolio asset which could reveal capital importing nation to increase system risk which was cause by volatility of such investments. Gilnen Tabak (2007) establish a new substitute for gathering information on risks that exists in financial institutions which assist in analysing the risk tools which are found in risk management. This method assists risk managers, supervisors in analysing the potential risk in financial institutions because of derivatives position. The main idea is the linear financial instrument which is also refer to the traditional method often used by management risk system it assist in decreasing roles in risk factors and defend the responsibilities of financial derivatives while the non-linear instrument have roles with different options which are represented as clear as European options. The study shows the propose method captured the risk occurrence in policies that consists of options with an accepted error margin. CHAPTER 3 DATA ANALYSIS AND METHODOLOGY 3.1 CASE STUDY The case study of this research will be the Chinas financial market; this research analysis will focus on the Chinas financial market, together with growth of the socialist market of the real economic structure. Chinas financial market is growing with the ongoing exploration. Currently, Chinas financial Market is essentially established as a pure division of the financial system. Chinas financial Market has started forming and many financial commercial have been developed, this includes Bonds, Stock and commercial bills. The capital loan and a bargain securities markets were established steadily after 1985. During the 1988, treasury bonds were established in the transfer market in major and average cities in china. In 1990 shanghai stock exchange was created and 1991 Shenzhen stock exchange was also created. Both stock exchange in 1999, release 98 A shares and 117 subsidiary shares, increasing 87.7 billion Yuan, which increase the total number of companies listed to 976; the aggregat e increase in foreign capital is about US$610Million with the use of issuing B and H shares. China releases 1.5Billion Yuan of A shares which can be transferred into bonds. In 1994, 94.1 billion Yuan was realised from issuing and selling stocks. The level of the transaction in the stock exchange by 1999 surpass 5,000 billion Yuan and it was summed up to about 401.5billion Yuan which was the value of government bonds issued and 191.1 billion Yuan was government bonds value in cash. This fund has successfully improved the financial status of the listed companies and a rise in the sources of money for technological transformation of the public banks and financial markets. In the recent years, the financial market in China has been undergoing a rapid growth, Neftci and Yuan, Michelle (2006), stated that China financial markets shows about $2 trillion and are anticipating the market to grow to about $10trillion by 2008, the china financial market continues to expand its investment with a view to ensure that their operations are successful. 3.2 RESEARCH AND DATA COLLECTION They are different types of financial derivatives found in Chinas financial market which are vital for the growth of Chinas financial market. The use of the financial derivatives has led to many financial difficulties in the rapid growth of the financial system, there is need for regulators to be more effective and implement more laws on the supervision of the financial derivatives. This will help to determine and regulate the stability of both the China financial market and the supervision of financial derivatives in china. Classic materials similar to the financial market and financial derivatives in China will be use as a guide. Other source of materials will be from the internet, textbooks and journals. This research work is structure to determine the supervision of the financial derivatives in China. The China financial market is chosen as a case for the analysis. The source of the main data is from China, National Statistics of China; and few of the firms annual report will be used for the data analysis. This research work will focus on the nature of the Chinas financial market and the outcome of the financial derivatives in China and the supervision structure of the financial derivatives in China. The SLEPT (refer to Social factor, Legal factor, Economic factor, Political factor, Technological factor) method will be used to examine the general system of the China financial market, it will focus on the classic findings of financial derivatives and also on China financial system in order to examine the nature of the financial market in China. From the results, the research will be based on the nature of the financial derivatives in China to examine the impact, introduction, growth, transactions and practise of the financial derivatives on the Chinas financial market. This research will also examine the supervision of financial derivatives in Chinas financial market in agreement with related articles and also to make some recommendation on the supervision of the financial derivatives in China. 3.3 DATA ANALYSIS The qualitative and quantitative method is both used to analyze the data. Under the qualitative analysis method, the materials such as journals and all information gathered from the internet are related to Chinas financial market and the supervision of financial derivatives, the report of the classic financial organisation will all be gathered as part of the qualitative assistance to the analysis. Some major dialogue by the classic economist in China will also be the main issues for the qualitative analysis; this is due to lack of interviews by government officials and financial managers of most firms. Generally, the secondary materials used will be part of the quantitative analysis, which will certainly show the problem of this research. The quantitative method, this method of analysis is the data and information gathered from different firms. The most significant data is gathered from the China National Statistics. Other information and data are gathered from various reports from different firms. It is difficult to make a questionnaire with this research because the research problem is comprehensive. The major source of information and data are gathered from the internet and few reports from the government is the main structure for the quantitative analysis. The major limitations are the quantitative method in this research is the lack of an individuals observations and analysis on financial markets and the supervision of the financial derivatives. CHAPTER 4 SUMMARY OF FINDINGS 4.1 CLASSICAL FINANCIAL DERIVATIVES USED IN CHINA China has commissioned a model in financial future exchange in 1990s. Ba Shusong (2006), stated that the core financial derivatives are the foreign exchange futures, stock index futures, warrants, convertible bonds and national debt future. Few of the do not function any more, although model is not so successful, it was importance for a lot of valuable experiences. However, with the growth in China financial market, the financial derivatives perform well and will return to China financial market and a fresh product which correspond to the requirements of the growth of economy; this will be additional expansion and will certainly play a vital role in the Chinas financial market. Foreign Exchange futures; Gregory (1995) stated that inside the foreign exchange market, each price in a market is a relative price, which shows an equal rate. In the late 1980s and from the beginning of 1990s, China was completely accommodating for financial derivatives and control method of suitable opened. From 1984, the local enterprises and companies can trade the offshore foreign exchange futures via the stock broking company. This will assist in requirement for hedging of local banks corporations and swap the foreign exchange role. The first ever foreign exchange swap of China exchange market was commissioned June 1992 in shanghai. The transaction in the foreign exchange futures in local have been displayed and developed from time to time. Later on, the Shenzhen foreign exchange centre was due for approval of foreign exchange futures transactions. (Ma Qingquan 2003). Ma Qingquan (2003), later on access the inner and external foreign exchange future and realize that they all have some difficulties which enable the government of Chinese to take a bold step to resolve and restructure the foreign exchange market. From 1993 to 1995, during this era, the Chinese government has continuously ordered the closure of unlawful foreign exchange futures brokerage firms. All the local foreign exchange in China did not operate extensively due to absence of regulators which lead to failure of the implementation. National debt futures; the national debt future is another method of interest rate futures; it is after the most growth of financial futures in China. The national debt future was originally found December 1992 in china. The shanghai stock exchange commission was the first contact of national debt future. In the year 1993, the transaction scope of the general debt futures had been worn out mainly, the individuals and brokers was given access to the market. The Beijing commodity exchange also welcomes the transaction of national debt futures. However, the national debt future was unripe for development; this follows the 314 contract irregularities storm in Shanghai stock exchange in Sept 1994 and 327 contract irregularities storm in February 1995 also emerge. May 1995, concluded the transaction of national debt future which finally collapse. Convertible Bonds; Convertible bonds are part of growing process of the growth of Chinas Stock market. Basically convertible bonds have a slight resemblance with stock options. (A stock option is also known as executive stock options). Little (2008) refer to a convertible bond is a kind of bond that can be switch into shares, bonds in an issuing firm. Mostly a few pre-announced proportion which is hybrid safety with same debt and equity characteristics. Ba Shusong (2006), the convertible bonds have experienced and discovered in over a decade since its first implementation in China, they have been known with many groups and they continue to progress and grow since the growth of the recent social economy of China. The convertible bonds are financial derivatives which agree with state of the growth of China economy. It will grow more and further along with the growth of the Chinas financial market. Warrant, this is a type of derivative protection that gives the owner the ability to buy security direct from the issuer at a given price within a specific period. Warrant are mostly part in a fresh issue which is refer to sweetener this is just to attract the shareholder. Between 1992 to 1996, China has commissioned a lot of warrants, which include sock warrant La Dai Fei, others are Ba oan 93 and Fuzhou East in Shanghai stock market while others warrant was also commissioned in Shenzhen stock market. This include Gui Liugong, Xia Haifa, Min minding, Xiang Zhongyi. However, because of the uncontrolled speculation of warrants, there are important speculations in the drop prices of warrants. The operations of the warrants were dismissed by the national regulatory body in June 1996. The reason for the dismissed is due to absence of regulators of the financial derivative. Hence, it is observed that the supervision and regulation on all types of Financial derivative is very important tha n the operation of the financial derivative. As soon as financial derivatives is in operation there is need for government to present a supervision in order to regulate the operations and function of financial derivatives therefore the financial derivatives will grow with health except if it will be dismissed at the closing stages due to the disorder of the financial market. In conjunction with the reform of the part construct of warrants, the issue of the warrants were present in the outline again. This is due to bearish and bullish choices with the features of the warrants. It has been an efficient way in the movement for safety of the interests of investors and simultaneously, it leads to rise in flexible payment of the price of the movement of non-investors. According to Xu Peng (2007) since 2007, 27 warrants have been registered in shanghai and Shenzhen stock market. Stock Index Futures; In March 1993, stock index futures surfaced in Chinas Hainan securities and exchange center, which showed as Shenzhen composite index and Shenzhen A share index. This is in line with the global practise, such as creation of deposit system. Unfortunately, stock market was not huge enough; the trading activities stopped functioning in the same 1993 due to speculation inside the market. Ba shusong (2006) further stated that 14years after, (April 2007), After the official commissioning of the Future Exchange Management Regulations, the stock index futures has reverted given that it has been compelled to shut down 14years earlier. This revert will certainly become an important discussion for everyone and local institutions. 4.2 STANDARD SUPERVISION OF FINANCIAL DERIVATIVES USED IN CHINA The standard supervision of financial derivatives in China can be categorise into 3, namely, the Risk management, this is the major body of the supervision of financial derivatives, the core regulator of the financial market which is a vital way to regulate the financial derivatives and the creation of rules for financial derivatives which is protection for the supervision of the financial derivatives. 4.2.1 RISK MANAGEMENT This involve the risk management of the market, the risk management of credit, risk management of liquidity, risk management of operation and legal risk management. Risk management of market; this is refer to as the loss in the rise and fall of interest rates, exchange rate and stock prices. Market risk management shows the status of a bank in a market in order to grow the number of frequency and times of the market estimation. Lu wendao (2007), refer this technique of market risk appraisal used in China financial market is to compute the potential of changes in the market price, the exposure of risk and to grow contingency policies in order to enable the right of assessment and to accept the changes in the market. Risk management of credit; The risk management of credit failure is to implement derivatives agreements or breach of contract of financial derivatives credit risk which means when the financial institutions such as banks decide to emulate a transaction which is in agreement with certain regulations. It is recommended that bank should focus more on risk diversification rather than avoiding more concentration of transactions. The risk management of liquidity; Xu and Peng (2007), management of liquidity risk is t

From their perspective: Children dealing with divorce Essay -- Social

The decision between a husband and wife to end their marriage due to irreconcilable differences has become an issue of epidemic proportions in the world today. Divorce is affecting people of all ages from the oldest to the youngest, tearing families apart. While the husband and wife getting the divorce are putting an end to what many of them once thought would be the best thing that would ever happened to them, it is their children who reap the most severe consequences. Children who were once looked after by both parents must adjust to living with one parent or moving back and forth between the two along with numerous other adjustments. The effects of divorce are not limited to practical adjustments alone, but research also indicates that children who go through the divorce of their parents experience physical and psychological troubles as well. According to recent research if current divorce rates remain steady, one in four children will go through the divorce of their parents befor e they are sixteen (Doweling & Gorell-Barnes, 1999). Another statistic shows that between 1972 and 1997 more than a million young children were involved in divorce each year (Zinsmeister, 1997). It is imperative in our society that is experiencing divorce so rampantly that we understand through research and observation the effects divorce has on children. The effects of divorce on children has been an issue of great controversy among professionals and parents alike. Research is inconclusive in many areas but enough evidence has been gathered to conclude that divorce does indeed have an impact on children. The effects of divorce, how much a child is impacted and how long the impact of divorce lasts, hinges largely on the age of the child when they ex... ...hat a child may experience after a family breakup (Jost & Robinson, 1991). Though the research presented here has focused on the negative effects divorce has on children there are instances where children hardly experience any ill effects from divorce. This is usually the case when the child’s parents are in abusive relationships or they are able to continue healthy relationships with both their parents. Sadly this is the exception and not the rule for children dealing with divorce. Despite the fact that there are several different opinions concerning the effects divorce has on children the majority of researchers agree that having married parents offers many benefits to children. These include but are not limited to, a higher standard of living, exposure to effective parenting, less stress overall and are more likely to succeed in school (McGuiness, 2006).

Rainbow’s end-belonging

Relationships and experiences shape an individual's sense of belonging Belonging means the idea of being part of something where you are accepted without compromise, conditions or limitations. Relationships with people around ones environment and experiences through one's life have a strong connection to shape an Individual's sense of belonging. The play Rainbows End by Jane Harrison demonstrates that relationships and experiences affect Individuals to shape their sense of belonging.Relationship between females usually has a great Influence on shaping Individual's sense of belonging. In the play, Rainbows End, It Is shown through contrasting Dolly and Errol. â€Å"But†¦ A real home? A real home Is where there are people looking out for each other In this part, Dolly pauses for a moment In which punctuation is used to indicate that she is confused and disagree with Errol. While Errol thinks the ‘home' is where he physically belongs, Dolly thinks the ‘home' is where h er family belongs together. This difference refers to their cultural background.Aboriginals believe that they are all closely related so that they always have to be together. However, Whites are usually individualists who just care about their ‘own' family thus; they haven't had to consider the place where they belong. Dolly and Roll's relationships with their own community has shaped their different perception about ‘home'. Furthermore, the play conveys that the sense of belonging can be divided by relationships people are involved. When Dolly goes to the Miss Moorland-separator Ball, she is the only person who is an Aborigine. Thieve cooking at us†, Dolly is an unwelcome guest in the Ball between Whites. Then Nancy, who is also a White, says â€Å"Love your dress, Dolly. Love your fabric [with a giggle]†¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦. L thought we took them to the tip. † sarcastically in a derogative tone. As the White is in higher status than the Aborigine, they used to i solate and discriminate them in Australia even though originally Aborigines were living in Australia. In the same way, Dolly was insulted by Nancy Just because she wasn't belonging to the white but belongs to Aborigines. The Rainbows End emphasizes that the relationship In group an have different sense of belonging to other groups and sometimes It does not get along together. An individual's sense of belonging can also be affected by the experiences they have had. Nan has a strong desire to go back to her hometown as she was obliged by the White to leave her hometown. â€Å"They forced us to leave. Forced us to leave Counterargument. Our home. † By repeating ‘forced us to leave', Nan exposes her strong sense of resentment towards Whites. Nan's sense of belonging Is reinforced through this experience. The more she has got forced, the more she Is offensive about her family. Gladys used to admire the white society and had strong desire to fit in there. â€Å"†¦ The QUE EN pulls her into a hug. The lights come back to reality. Gladys is holding a bunch of weeds. † The weed is the symbol of poorness which is her reality. She had many daydreams. However, by experiencing the rejection from the bank manager, the blocked out from the Queen's visit and the isolation from housing problem, she begins to realism that the Whites would not accept her; the Aborigines. So she starts to approach to the reality and consider the way to change. The experience has changed Gladys sense of belonging more respectfully. According to the relationship and experience, individuals can shape one's sense of belonging. This is well demonstrated in the play, Rainbows End. Relationships can have an influence on shaping one's sense of belonging and can be divided into each group. buy custom Diet Pop or Regular Pop essay

buy custom Diet Pop or Regular Pop essay Many people have faced problems in deciding which pop to take. People have different opinions on the reasons why they prefer a particular pop instead of another. Through various researches carried worldwide, People have tried to know specific causes of ailments especially those thought to be associated with food. Although it is known that everything that has an advantage have a disadvantage, the need to study on the best option has made me choose this area of study. It is important to know the components of each of these pops and decide on the one that has the least side effects or harm on human health (Brownell et al, 2007). Diet pop contains aspartame, which is a sweetener although it is non-sugar. Diet pop include the cola drinks, which are found worldwide. At temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius, the aspartame in diet pop changes to phermeldahide. This is a chemical substance, which is used as a freezing agent in mortuaries. Consumption of this chemical substance at large amount is vital to human health and can cause cancer, severe ailments, brain tumors, lymphoma, and brain lesions. On the other hand, regular pop contains a small percentage of sugar. Human body especially for proper functioning of the brain requires sugar. Consumption of large amounts of sugar may also be dangerous but the regular pop does not contain lots of sugar that can pose health dangers to individuals. Purpose of the study The primary purpose of this study is to decide which type of pop is good for human health. The major area of interest is the side effects of consumption of these pops. It is therefore, paramount to carry out this study because it will help in advising people on the best pop to take and to reduce chances of getting healthy problems and illnesses associated with pop consumption. Literature review Studies by George showed that diet pop causes allergies; these drinks contain low-calories and may cause chronic or acute hives. Another research by Dr. McCay at a research institute showed that these drinks also damages calcium in the body (Brownell et al, 2007). Furthermore, a health study by nurses showed that those women who consume diet drinks daily increases isks of high blood pressure by 9-13 % (Hu et al, 2006). Methodology In order to carry out this research successfully, several methods were used. These methods include use of questionnaire, and interviews. Archived medical data was also drawn and analyzed. Several people were interviewed on their preferred pop and their reasons for their preferences were considered. Questionnaires were also used and people were to give their opinion on the use of diet and regular pops. Medical data on instances of ailments due to consumption of diet or regular pop were also used. From all the data obtained, analysis were done and conclusions drawn. Results From the interviews taken, 98% of the people interviewed, both male and female were found to prefer taking regular pop. 95% of these preferred natural juice while the rest preferred flavored water. All the 98% had at one point taken diet pop and 90% had cases of headaches. The others fell dehydrated and opted to do away with diet pop. From questionnaires, it was found out that 89% of the people do not take diet pop. 90% of them have never taken them because they have knowledge on the side effects and the others have had headaches, and other withdrew after their close relatives or friends were diagnosed of cancer or brain tumors after a long consumption of diet pop. The other 2% were found to take diet pop everyday and they have never experienced any problem. They only find that they cannot so without it. The other group of people who experienced weight gain after consuming the two pops gave the results below. consumption Regular pop Diet pop can per day -1 can per day 1-2 cans per day 2 cans per day 25% 30% 32% 47% 35% 37% 54% 57% Medical datta obtained from a district hospital showed that 60% of those patients with cancer were because of consuming diet pop. Those with brain tumors amounted to 10%. It was also found that those with frequent headaches were because of consuming diet pop (Drewnowski Bellisle, 2007). Discussion From the results obtained above, it is evident that diet pop is not good for human health. A higher percentage of people prefer taking regular pop because it does not contain any chemical substance, which is harmful for human health. Others opted to taking regular pop because they consistently increased weight unexpectedly. From the results tabulated above, it is seen that those who took diet pop had a higher weight gain rates. Moreover, many have opted to taking flavored water or naturally squeezed juice instead of diet pop. From these findings, it is clear that past research is true and many people are likely to stop taking diet pop in the near future. Many have knowledge on the side effects as brought up by scientist in the past and are not willing to take them at any time (Brownell et al, 2007). Although this study is successful, there were problems encountered in analyzing qualitative data and this is the major weakness of this study. It is, however, the best study because the quantitative analysis gave consistent results with past research and hence, considered successful and proven that taking regular pop is healthy compared to taking diet pop. Conclusion and recommendation In conclusion, it is clear that diet pop is harmful to human health. To avoid chances of getting cancer, brain tumors among other associated diseases, people should resort to taking natural juice. Chemical components like the artificial sweeteners make the body react and generate insulin. In a case where a person is addicted to use of diet pop, it is advisable to drink plenty of water so that the body does not feel dehydrated. It is clear that there is a difference in the sugar requirement for male and females (Hu et al, 2006). Future researchers are hereby advised to carry out more research and ensure that they separate male and female data. This will show who are prone to sicknesses due to consumption of diet pop. Week 2 - Team C A ssignment Essays - Business Economics, Economy

Week 2 - Team C A ssignment Essays - Business Economics, Economy Week 2 - Team C A ssignment A CC / 4 00 November 2 , 2015 Mark Tischler Figure 2: T-accounts for Assume table is finished and sold Figure 3: Time Tickets and Materials Requisition Form Figure 5: T-accounts for Assume table is finished and sold, bookshelves are finished and China Cabinet is n ot finished This learning team learning activity required us to walk through the simulation of job order costing process for a manufacturer of a custom-made furniture that makes three different pieces of furniture - table, bo ok shelves and china cabinets. We walked through the manufacturing process of a table, bookshelf, and a china cabinet and flow through as well as the corresponding flow of costs through the accounting systems and the T accounts. We were also required to track the costs of direct materials, direct labor and manufacturing overhead. Part of this process was filling out labor cost sheets in order to accurately track three different jobs (table, bookshelves, and china cabinet ) . This process allowed our team to understand the entire production process from raw materials to finished goods as well as understanding how to these costs are treated in the accounting system. Job order costing systems are used for projects that are unique, custom, and non-repetitive. The primary purpose of activity based costing system focuses on generating more accurate costs and is used by several companies that produce custom made, non-mass products product (i.e. custom made tables, or private jets). When calculating costs for job order costing, overhead costs are allocated to each individual job, while direct costs are traced. In our example, first, the raw materials (both direct and indirect) were purchased from outside suppliers and place d in the raw material warehouse. Then, direct labor cost s involving two employees ( one (Employee A) in cutting and another (Employee B) in finishing departments) were tracked by using the time tickets. The direct materials are also tracked by using the materia ls request form, in which the direct labor worker requests the materials (for example wood, glass etc. ) needed to begin the work on a particular job. To complete the job cost sheet, manufacturing overhead must be allocated. In a normal costing system, a predetermined overhead rate is used estimated by the company. A predetermined overhead rate is determined by dividing total overhead by actual direct labor hours. This overhead rate is then applied the number of direct labor hours incurred by each job. If the applied overhead amounts are more than actual, then we have over applied overhead. These amounts tend to balance our from month to month, and the amount of over or under applied overhead at the year-end is usually not material and the balances may be closed directly to the cost of goods sold in the income statement. A major activity of allocating overheads in job order cost system involves selecting an activity base which is based on actual cause or driver of the Company to consume the resources. This is important as some products require less activity while others require more. For departments that are more capital intensive, machine hours should be used as an allocation base, while for manual labor intensive departments, direct labor hours should be used as an allocation base. This is an important aspect of allocation overhead in activity based costing, as activities that cause or drive overhead, called cost drivers must be properly determined. In this simulation, we were already given applied manufacturing overhead and used direct labor hours as a driver of for finishing department and machine hours as a dr iver for the cutting department. Contrary of activity based costing, a plant-wide cost driver is best to use when allocating all of the company's overheads to its production output. Plant wide rate is the amount per machine hour, labor hour, or a percentage of product's direct costs. Discussion and Writing Suggestions - Essay Example The solar power technology has improved dramatically over the years and the largest solar power generation plant is located in the Mojave Desert in the state of California. The solar power generation is through the Concentrated Solar Power where large mirrors are used to concentrate sunlight to produce heat that can be used to produce steam that can turn turbines to produce electricity. Solar power has advantages and disadvantages both to the environment and the economy. There have been various concerns raised by environmentalists on the viability of solar power generation especially through the use Concentrated Solar Power which has various effects on the environment (Demirdjian 2). The article of Marla Dickerson â€Å"state solar plans are as big as all outdoors† points out some of the major environmental concerns that arise due to the setting up of a solar power generation plant in Mojave, California and other solar power stations. These environmental issues are also raised by Peter Maloney in his article â€Å"Environmentalists against Solar Power†. The major environmental concerns are the need to use large amounts of water to cool the turbines in a land where water is already a scarce resource. This implies that more water will be extracted from the desert thus depleting further the underground water resources. Maloney elaborates that the mirrors and the solar panels will need to be washed which will require more water. According to Peter Maloney a successful Solar Power generation can be successfully integrated through the use of rooftop solar energy. This recommendation will eliminate the need to use large tracts of land to generate energy. Behrens and Leonard (87) states that the Mojave, California Solar Power generation occupies 78,490 acres of land in the desert. Peter Maloney argues that the land is home to many living things which include squirrels, humans and other small animals. The use of this desert land will lead to the reduction in biodiversity since many living organisms are destroyed. Peter Maloney quotes the founder of the Alliance for Responsible Energy Policy, Jim Harvey saying â€Å"Our position is that none of this is needed. We support renewable energy, and we support California’s renewable energy targets, but we think it can be done through rooftop solar† Rooftop solar power generation has limited implications on the environment. Marla Dickerson elaborates how California has the largest and most sophisticated solar thermal facilities in the world that can be utilized effectively to supply energy to the entire state. Marla points out that the dependence of energy from outside the state will be reduced since California will be able to supply its residents with reliable sources of energy. The objections put forward by Maloney and Dickerson are of great significance to the wellbeing of the environment. To provide a clean and habitable environment, human actions must be closely scrutinized in order to make judgments on the positive and negative impacts of human actions. Use of solar power has various positive impacts on the environment. Murakami (32) points out that solar power helps in the reduction of green house gases which have a negative impact on the ozone layer. Traditional sources of energy generation like the burning of

Organisation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Organisation - Essay Example Introduction Securing the effectiveness of organizational strategies is one of the most critical challenges for managers in modern businesses. On the other hand, the elimination of threats in a firm’s environment is not feasible. This means that failures cannot be avoided but they should be rather used as indicators of organizational weaknesses that need to be addressed without delay. In practice, it has been proved that the effective management of knowledge within organizations can result to the limitation of failures, either in the short or the long term. The literature published in regard to this subject shows that the establishment of appropriately customized knowledge management systems can help organizations to control all aspects of their activities so that organizational goals are achieved. The practical implications of such project are explained in this paper by referring to Speedo Ltd, a firm operating in the British automotive industry. Since its establishment, in 1 997, the organization had to face a series of critical operational problems. Through the years it was made clear that these problems were related to the firm’s inability to manage knowledge. ... the firm’s existing knowledge management strategy could secure organizational growth, even if the benefits of the relevant project could appear with delay. It should be noted that the knowledge management strategy proposed for Speedo Ltd could be also used, with minor changes, in firms in other industries that face similar problems. 2. Speedo Ltd – Company Overview 2.1 Structure The head office of the organization is in South London. The firm’s branches across UK are estimated to 12, covering all regions of the country. All key decisions are developed in the head office where the strategic planning unit of the organization is located. Managers in branches have the power to make suggestions in regard to a series of operational issues but their potential to influence the firm’s critical projects is rather limited. The central database of the business has been implemented in the head office, where all critical organizational departments, such as the HR depart ment, the PR department and the financial department of the business are based. Employees working in branches do not have full access to the database’s data; the firm’s IT network has been arranged in such way so that the information provided to the user/ employee is filtered as of its necessity for the task assigned to the particular user. This means that each employee/ user is authorized to access specific parts of the firm’s central database. This practice has helped to reduce failures in regard to the safety of the firm’s data. 2.2 Purpose and culture The firm focuses on the sale of news and used cars of different characteristics. The firm’s founder, John Peterson, has tried to promote communication and cooperation across the organization. The phrase ‘Trust and speed in communication’
